Establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Cells

IECD seeks to establish Entrepreneurship Development Cells (EDC) at college level for promoting the youth entrepreneurship and to implement the entrepreneurship development programmes offered by various agencies to the college students. For promoting the Entrepreneurship Development Cells at the college level IECD in collaboration with DLL has organized an Intensive Orientation Course to EDC Co-ordinators of affiliated colleges on 4th March, 2005.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Rajasekaran Pillai, then Vice-Chairman, University Grants Commission, New Delhi under the presidentship of Dr. C. Thangamuthu, then Vice- Chancellor of Bharathidasan University. The main vision of the training was to constitute college-wise Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), with motivated faculty members as Co-ordinators in all affiliated colleges of Bharathidasan University. Presently, 85 affiliated colleges have established their ‘EDC’ cells at the respective colleges.

It is interesting to note that it was the first and memorable programme of the IECD during 2004-2005. So far 17524 students and non- students were oriented on Entrepreneurship Development Programmes.
